Sanctus Winds is a community band of wind, brass, and percussion players who use their musical gifts to the glory of the Triune God. The ensemble gathers several times a year to prepare concerts that have Christ-centric themes incorporating high-quality sacred and traditional literature for the wind band. Membership is open to adult musicians and advanced high school musicians (with audition).
We are based in St. Louis, MO, United States and perform across the region.
Rehearsals are typically held on the four to five preceeding Sundays prior to a schedule concert.

The Director
The director and founder of Sanctus Winds is Matthew Janssen. Matthew serves as the Director of Bands at Lutheran South and as Kantor at Hope Ev. Lutheran Church, both in St. Louis, MO. At Lutheran South he is the chair of the music department, directs the middle school band program, and leads the high school Wind Symphony, Concert Band, and Jazz Band. At Hope he is the principal organist, directs the adult and children’s choir, plans worship, and serves as the curator of the churches music series, Music in a Sacred Space. Mr. Janssen has a B.S. in Music Education from Concordia University, Nebraska and an M.M. in Trumpet Performance from the University of Louisville, KY. When not leading some sort of musical endeavor he enjoys being at home with his wife and pets, camping, and binge-watching through various streaming services.
Membership is open to advanced high school musicians (with an audition) and adult musicians with previous ensemble performance experience. Members are requested to attend 4-5 rehearsals to prepare for each concert. In the true community band spirit, there are no limitations to the number of players in each section. We are always open to new members. Click below to fill out the Sanctus Winds Interest Form.
